Wednesday, 1 October 2008: We celebrated 1 Syawal (Aidilfitri) this year in a totally different place and surrounding. Here, there was no Malaysian style Hari Raya takbir, no sound of mercun, no Hari Raya TV specials and even no Hari Raya songs. If not for big Malaysians community here, may be the kids would not realize that yesterday was Hari Raya.We also did a routine which was never being done before. Yesterday, we went for solat Hari Raya together at Monash University at 8 o'clock in the morning. The solat was done at a open place in one of parking buildings in the university. It was a cold and windy morning.
At about 11:30 am, we went to the Hari Raya Celebration at our friend's house in Oakleigh East. There was a lot food there but it will never be the same with all the foods in Malaysia.
And around 1:00 pm, we went home and mama went back to university to continue her work. What a modest Aidilfitri Celebration we had this year.
(Sorry kids there is no duit raya this year)
Note: Kids baju raya were kindly sponsored by Atok and Nanny from Klang. Thank you very much. The baju really made the Hari Raya more meaningful.
